Self-Assessment Essay

Over the course of this semester, this FIWQIS 10108 class has helped me profoundly to analyze texts and improved my reading and writing skills, I have learned about how social media platforms and how they can have a profound emotional and phycological effect on users who uses these platforms daily. Users who use these platforms are often going to be exposed to some sort of ominous behavior that can’t be avoided because of the algorithms set by the companies themselves. Continuing this academic track. I never gave it much thought about how emotions and the way a human think revolves around media platforms, Texts given by the professor really opened my eyes and made me think critically about the situation. I was fortunate to find that these types of data really matter in representing the user and the individuals as a whole.

I’ve was presented with the writing style of which is called the MLA Format. I truly never worked with this type of format in my high school; this new writing style was new to me and was objectively hard to work with the difficulties I had with was the work cited page and also how to correctly do a citation. An example of this is in my critical analysis essay in where I discussed Plato’s ideologies on social media platforms and the ways he would use it to source out information and find out truth I was mixed up with how to end the citation. “According to Oglesby, “popularity may be quantified by likes, but not by wisdom.” (Nathan 5).”  I believed that adding the author’s name twice in a single citation would be incorrect, but rather this was the correct way because of the Purdue OWL site that helped me clarify this instance.

In continuance, what really helped me further develop my writing skills and my thought processes was the in-class peer review. I believe that this activity helped me create a path to success in my writing, by having classmates read my work and provided me with their insights really solidified a foundation on what my strengths and what my weaknesses are. They provided me with an important statement about my thesis. They believed that it was a little too broad and that I should develop a thesis question and add subclaims to make my thesis statement stronger and more well-tuned. This helped me to narrow down what I wanted to write about and made my overall essay more compelling and effective.

In addition, this class made me learn that staying silent when help is needed is not the best way to grow as a student. Asking for help is essential for learning and understanding what is being taught by the teacher. This also helped me with time management because it would allow me to make a schedule that fits on my day-to-day basis and that it helped me be prepared for class and coming in on time. These academic habits are essential to me as a student because they are what keeps me from failing and succeeding in college. Developing and maintaining these habits are a positive for my future successes that allow precision and consistency.

To conclude everything that was stated so far, this FIQWIS 10108 class helped me grow not only as a reader and writer but also as a critical thinker. This class showed me how to use proper citation using the MLA style and also to how to use critical thinking in order to view different perspectives on a certain topic which is presented. From reading giving texts to anazying the main point of the author is what this class has taught me for my future and for any given challenge, that crosses my path.
